Sami Nielsen (she/her)
Sami is a graphic designer who is deeply motivated to support LGBTQIA youth within an LDS context by encouraging Christlike acceptance of marginalized groups in the Church. Having been an active member for most of her life and embracing her queer identity for the past decade, this cause is close to her heart.
Her past involvement in LGBTQIA advocacy includes work with Gather and Belong, as well as attending Pride events. At this Belong Youth Conference, Sami will be serving as a counselor, bringing her extensive experience working with kids to offer support to those embracing their identities.
Sami hopes that participants will feel seen, heard, and loved for who they are, and that they will leave feeling empowered to be unflinchingly authentic.
Outside of work, Sami enjoys a wide range of creative pursuits, including cooking, crafts, movies, podcasts, playing D&D, and attending concerts and plays. When in need of inspiration, she often turns to the heartwarming film Kiki's Delivery Service.
The guiding value in Sami's work and interactions is kindness, recognizing the unseen struggles others may be facing. She is inspired daily by her loved ones, whose admirable qualities motivate her to be a better person.
Sami's vision for creating safe and affirming spaces for LGBTQIA youth is to foster an environment where lasting connections can be made, providing a supportive network that extends far beyond the conference.
